Walmart Labs
Senior Principal UX • November 2012 - April 2015
While at Walmart Labs, I had the pleasure of building, managing and working with numerous UX teams located across the US. Initially, I managed the visual design team for all Walmart, Asda, and Sam’s Club mobile properties, where we created visual designs for Android, iPhone, iPad, and mobile web, prototypes, mobile guidelines, seasonal campaigns, and digital vision. We drove over $1B in revenue and through our in-store features elevated our iOS app to #1 in the marketplace. I helped gather ethnographic mobile research, organize weekly usability tests, and ran design studios which included participants from engineering, product, marketing, UX, UI, and research. Our apps were a bridge between e-commerce and in-store activity and innovated on such features as register-less checkout, smart lists, physical to digital movie conversion, in-store maps, in-store QR codes, online to in-store pickup, online grocery, and post-purchase price matching.
After a re-organization and promotion, I led UX design efforts across Walmart’s discovery track, while also managing a mobile transition to responsive mobile web and hybrid applications. Here, the design team continued to leverage lean UX practices, create both HTML and rapid prototypes with Flinto and Invision, align styles across all digital platforms, integrate advertising into our products, and help bring mobile thinking to a greater desktop UX and creative team.
