WALMART
Designing Savings Catcher and Moving in Store Shoppers to a Digital Ecosystem
UX strategy / Visual design
Walmart's Saving Catcher was the largest success within the Walmart Labs mobile team. It's intuitive user experience and delightful interactions help lead to an ad match program that drove Walmart's iphone app to the number position in the app store. It's exceptional experience helped the native experience excel beyond the mobile web version and become possibly the greatest use of QR codes to date (yes, people actually used them).
It all started with clearly defined business goals established by the product and strategy team. We leveraged the Lean UX business assumptions worksheet to align the design team.

From there we openly brainstormed sets of features and held a design studio, with multiple rounds of sketching. Diverging and converging into a unified concept.

As a team we aligned on what interactions we all felt would achieve our goals.

The main path along with all the edge cases were documented.

Lastly, the designs were turned into high fidelity mockups, along with animations for a delightful reward notification.

The experience catapulted app usage over web use, while also bringing exposure to a slew of other features within the app. Walmart's long running single app strategy was able to fully leverage the traffic.
