On-demand staffing marketplace onboarding

BACKGROUND

Wonolo brought my agency onboard to help solve their user experience challenges. We put a focus on onboarding to help the marketplace drive qualified applicants.

OBJECTIVE

Create a best in class digital onboarding experience that educates applicants while also helping qualify interest.

DISCOVER

We set out to increase on-boarding completion percentages while also raising first-time attendance and ratings. To achieve these results, we spent time in the field observing how team members onboard, use the app, and execute tasks. We also reviewed best in class onboarding experiences at the time to help inform our work.

DESIGN

Based on our findings, we proposed an Android focused onboarding flow that presented a quiz based educational step approach. The quiz provided useful onboarding information while also creating positive friction that helped drive show rates.

DEVELOP

We developed a rapid prototype to place in front of users to validate our hypothesis. During testing we saw a 50% reduction in onboarding speed and positive results with qualitative research on design and knowledge retention feedback.

ITERATE

Based on our user research, we further iterated, adjusting designs where we saw friction, and keeping core components that solved our initial problems.

OUTCOME

Our outcome was an improved onboarding experience that drove both signups as well as attendance.
